I know we’ve been slacking a little on our blogs the last few weeks but it has been such a busy time at the store with the Christmas season in full force. I’ve finally gotten a little downtime and hope to make up for it.
As I sit here and write this (yes, with a glass of wine by the fire!) I can’t help but be filled with joy and gratitude. Since we re-opened in June it’s been a wonderful and exciting whirlwind ride filled with things to be grateful for. In the spirit of the 12 days of Christmas, here are 12 things we are so grateful for at Crew’s Quarters (in no particular order BTW, and fully #supportlocal):
#12: Renovation Elves: When we first opened the doors in the winter months to begin renovations there may have been a few tears and buckets of fear. We had a lot to do to make the new Crew’s Quarters a place that feels like home. We did it! But not without the help of a ton of family and friends. You know who you are, and we love you!
#11: Boss Babes: If you haven’t met the folks at Buck Marketing, you’re missing out. They formed a “Boss Babes” group, a place for female entrepeneurs to share their challenges and their victories. As a new business owner it really means a lot to rub shoulders with such a kick-ass bunch of gals.
#10: The Pie Guys: Rob, one of the owners of The Pie Guys, approached us around Halloween and invited us to share in doing a Pumpkin Carve for kids. The event was free to kids, just a really cool way to give back to the community that supports our businesses. I can’t wait to do it again next year!
#9: The City of Port Colborne: Our grand re-opening was made extra special thanks to a ribbon cutting ceremony with Mayor John Maloney. We even got a lovely plaque to celebrate the occasion and it’s hanging proudly on our wall to remind us of that special day. And we had not one, but TWO mayors show up! Vance Badawey took time out of his busy schedule in Ottawa to drop in and we’ll never forget it. #porticipate
#8: Uncle Don & Aunt Lisa for the First 29 Years: In June of this year Crew’s Quarters celebrated 29 years of continuous business. Anybody who loves Crew’s Quarters as much as we do has fond memories of Don & Lisa. Without them, the store wouldn’t exist and we wouldn’t have such an awesome legacy to honour and continue. We love them dearly, and we’re certain you do too.
#7: Mochaberry Coffee: Yes, we’re coffee snobs. Big ones! We love and collect coffee like some people collect wines. We love it soooooo much we carry our own roast: Kraken’s Fury! Bold, dark, and irresistible. No, we don’t have a roaster in the back of the store. Our friends at Mochaberry roast Kraken’s Fury for us fresh to order. Try some. Warning: You’ll love it!
#6: Funky Upbeat Designs: Our store’s tagline is “Unique & Unusual”, and our friends handmade and up-cycled drum-kit-furniture at Funky Upbeat Designs really fit the bill! We love their furniture so much we ordered our own drum kit wine rack and table. They even monogrammed the Crew’s Quarters logo into for us! Worthy of a drum-roll for sure!
#5: Sweet Sunshine Nice Cream: OMG, if you haven’t tried Sweet Sunshine’s Nice Cream, you are missing out on one of life’s greatest decadent pleasures! 100% vegan yumminess. Our daughter is a big fan, and you will be too! My personal favorite is the Maple Walnut!
#4: Grey’s Haven Farm Sanctuary: Some people have hearts that are almost too big to believe. Our friends at Grey’s Haven Farm Sanctuary do an incredible amount of good for animals that otherwise would be living not very nice lives. You can drop by and see Grey, their mascot goose, and a host of other adorable pigs, goats, chickens, and more. Why not help them out and donate to their cause? You’ll be glad you did!
#3: Anchored21: This one makes our list because they support 100% local artisans and makers. They carry an incredible amount of goods, all local, all hand made, all just fully awesome. And the owner has dropped in on us more than one occasion with coffee in hand when we need it most! Anchored21, keep keeping it local!
#2: Our Daughter For Helping Out: If you come into the store on a weekend you are likely to meet the most incredible kid we know: Arwyn. She helps out with cashing customers out, opening and closing, and even ordering product for our #Trending section. She never asks for anything in return and she makes days at the store so very bright!
#1: Our Customers: Since we re-opened in June the support has been humbling. We’re doing way better than we could have ever hoped for and feel confident that Crew’s Quarters will be here for the next 29 years. When you shop with us, you’re supporting a local family, local makers and artists. We’re glad you like what we have, that you know we are more than just a store, that what we do here, we do for you. Thank you so much for all of your support!!
We could have a lot more than 12 in this list but given the theme of our blog we’ll have to leave it here. Far too many things to be grateful for and not enough space to list them all!
Now it’s your turn! What things are you grateful for this year, and how are you keeping it local? We’re looking forward to your comments and hope you have a very, merry Christmas!
